Fattoria di Marena: The Farm

Fattoria di Marena is an agricoltural estate in Casentino, Tuscany, offering farmstays in detached houses and self-catering apartments.

The farm consists of 170 hectares (425 acres) so divided : fields where sunflowers, wheat, mais and alfa-alfa grass are grown, for about 50 hectars, meadows where the farm cattle live for about 30 hectars, 90 hectars of woods (close to the farm houses we have high-trunk woods of fir, pine, oaks). The farm offers foothpaths and is a good place for birdwatching.
The farm breed a "family" of about 40 cows, a bull and calfes: all them are pedigreed Chianina race animals. Close to them live the horses of the riding school. We have a hen-house with a nice family of assorted hens, rooster, goose, a donkey.

Chianina is the biggest cow race

CHIANINA is the biggest cow race in the world, with bulls arrive to be till 1800 kg heavy (but our one, living free in the farm meadows is not so fat!) and cows about 700 kg.
The adults are white of a "porcelaine" white, with horns (our cows still have horns!) and nose black. Babies are of a typical light-red colour.
